Notrium

Think you got what it takes to survive on an alien planet all alone? In the top-down survival action game by the name of Notrium you get your chance to prove it!

In the game you play as either a human, android, or alien who crash landed on a foreign planet. You must find shelter, food, a source of heat, and something to defend yourself with if you want to survive.

The cool part is you salvage a lens from this, a battery from that and before you know it, you built a laser pistol or an energy shield. Another thing that's neat is that all the different races play very differently because of their strengths and weaknesses. I really liked this game, and it hasn't left my computer since I installed it.

Newgrounds

Newgrounds is a massive site for flash-based games and movies. It is essentially Youtube for online games and cartoons. There are thousands of games videos ranging from highly amusing to sick to just plain stupid. Best of all, they are all free! I will probably feature some of my favorite games but until then, why not try some yourself?

BattleOn.com

AdventureQuest was one of the first free games I came across on the interwebs. It is fitting that I should get back into it at the time of starting this blog. AdventureQuest is flash-based online single-player RPG. You create an account, fight some monsters, do quests, and buy new equipment.

Unlike normal RPGs, AdventureQuest doesn't have near as much story or dialog. It is more action based. It's online nature means new things get added very often to keep you interested in playing.

One thing that irks me about this game is they have a setup where it is free but it can only have a certain number of free users online at one time. If you want to play when it is full, you have to have a premium account for a one time fee.

MechQuest is just like AdventureQuest except it uses a sci-fi theme. The battle system is also slightly different. It's also fairly new, so there isn't as quite as much to do yet but since AdventureQuest can be a bit overwhelming I recommend trying MechQuest first. MechQuest also doesn't seem to have the user restriction that AdventureQuest does.

There are also some other games and minigames on their website.
